About Me
After retiring from teaching on the Oregon Coast, my husband and I moved to La Pine, Oregon. As a native Oregonian, I have lived in several places throughout the state. For eight years during my teaching career I lived in small villages in the "Outback of Alaska" on the western coast. Now I live in what is referred to as the "Outback of Oregon". During this time, I documented my experience through photography and enjoyed the creative side of capturing what I saw through the lens of my camera.
Through the years I have always been interested in painting. I painted in High School and later in life I took an acrylic class. Over time as I would visit art galleries and art exhibitions I would be drawn to watercolor paintings. The use of rich colors and the fluidity of the paint is what I admired and enjoyed. When I retired I wanted to try watercolor painting as a new hobby. I continue each day to be inspired from the medium that flows through my brush onto the paper.
When I paint I use the photographs I have taken as an inspiration. Since the Northwest is so diverse, I never lack a subject that excites me. As I paint, I want the viewer to feel they are with me in the scene. Someone once told me as they were looking at my Fort Rock picture that they could smell the sagebrush; that is the feeling I hope to capture in my paintings.
I continue to learn and become excited as I try to capture the beauty around me. I paint with other watercolor artists and enjoy their creativity and friendship. My husband mats and frames my work and encourages me each day. My yellow lab (pictured with me above), Molly, is my constant companion as I sit and paint. She has even been known to lick one of my paintings and much to my horror and surprise, it gave it a more faded technique.
Thank you for visiting my website and remember to support local artists whenever possible!
