In June we traveled to Seward, Alaska. While we were there we took a 3 day kayaking trip on
Resurrection Bay. The rock formations were enormous and so inspiring, I had to try and capture the feeling. We had sea lions follow us and swim under our kayaks. We saw dall porpoise and humpback whales breaching. What an experience!

Mt Thielsen has such a unique shape. I always look forward to seeing it as we travel to Crater Lake.
I am always the bright hues of fireweed against the dark forest. Fireweed must be a hardy plant because I have observed it on the tundra of Alaska, throughout the Northwest, and into Mexico. It is a beautiful plant for being a weed.

Bluebirds in the autumn aspen. What better combination could there be! I love the contrast of blue and yellow. The bluebirds near our home always take my breath away as I watch them along the neighbors fence line. They have such a stunning color and are so graceful.
This is a picture I put together of two different scenes. I enjoy watching the deer as they comes through our property. They become increasingly brave before they get ready to head to higher ground for the winter and come closer and closer to the house. Molly, our pup, gets so use to them that she sometimes will lay in her bed in the family room and watch them saunter by without a bark.
This paintings is from the power line east of Sunriver. Mt. Bachelor and the Sister's are in the background. The foreground shows the rugged terrain of the lava fields and the vegetation and trees trying to grow through and around the rock.
I took a Botanical Illustration class from Jeanne Debons in Bend this last fall. I learned new techniques that enhanced my skills . I am enjoying painting even more and love the look of layering paint. These are two bluebirds. The brightly colored one is the male and the other is a female.
You might want to check out Jeanne Debons website. Her work is amazing.

Can you find nature's treasure? Thrush eggs are hidden in the left hand corner
just as you would find them as you are walking along. A good example of camouflage

Think of the stories they could tell.

"Discovery"
Have you ever peered at rocks on a riverbed and been fascinated by the colors and shapes? Choosing the one to put in your pocket takes time to ponder and reflect. It has to feel just right. This is what the photograph of rocks by John Salisbury made me think of. The one rock that would be special to me.
I contacted John and he gave me the permission to paint it. What fun I had blending colors and creating that perfect rock.

As we were coming down the side of the mountain we encountered this bluff.
I was inspired by all of the textures and colors intermingled in the rock formation.
Such beauty in a harsh environment.
